The Origin Story
From Broadcast Journalism to the Front Page of Google
There is a particular kind of ambition that doesn’t announce itself loudly. It doesn’t pitch itself in elevator speeches or splash across billboards. It shows up every morning, rolls up its sleeves, and gets to work — quietly, consistently, and with uncommon care. That is the ambition of Kimberly Hogate, a Denver-based entrepreneur who has spent more than fourteen years building, nurturing, and growing businesses — first her clients’, and now, unmistakably, her own.
Today, Hogate runs not one but four distinct companies: Faceted Media, a full-service digital marketing and growth agency; SynchroniCITY SEO, a hyper-focused search engine optimization and advertising firm; Business Therapy with Kim, her coaching and advisory practice for anxious entrepreneurs; and Faceted Travel Agency, the newest addition to her portfolio. It is a portfolio that would exhaust most people. For Hogate, it feels like a natural extension of who she has always been.
“My fascination with building businesses started at the lemonade stand,” she says, with the easy laugh of someone who has told this story before but still finds it funny. “From there, it was a neighborhood babysitting club — I recruited friends to help share family requests.” Leadership, it seems, was never something Hogate reached for. It simply kept finding her.
Hogate studied Broadcast Journalism at Columbia College Chicago, where she developed a storyteller’s instincts — an eye for detail, a nose for what matters, and the ability to translate complexity into something a general audience can grasp and feel. Those instincts, it turns out, translate perfectly to digital marketing.
Her pivot into SEO and web work came almost accidentally. While working a corporate job, she was tasked with building a website for the company. The experience lit something in her. “From then on, it’s been a focused sprint of learning everything possible about SEO, marketing, advertising, content, events, and just simply how to grow businesses,” she recalls.
She founded Faceted Media in 2011 and has since helped hundreds of clients — therapists, realtors, photographers, podcasters, physical therapists, builders, educators — build digital foundations strong enough to sustain real livelihoods. The work spans SEO optimization, Google Ads management, website builds, Google Business Profile optimization, high-DA backlink strategy, content creation, video editing, and social media. In short: everything.
“I still do nearly all of the work completely hands-on, 1-on-1 with the client, even after all these years. What I prefer is a small, efficient team that is high quality. That’s what we do here at Faceted Media.”
What distinguishes the agency in a crowded industry isn’t just the breadth of services — it’s radical transparency. Clients at Faceted Media don’t receive a monthly PDF of vanity metrics. Hogate sends screenshots, screen recordings, and step-by-step walkthroughs so clients genuinely understand what is happening with their business online. “So many clients come to us frustrated from their past experience with their marketing agency,” she explains. “Many times they arrive with a very vague understanding of their own statistics. Instead of keeping it like that, I share, educate, and provide visuals of the exact tech — so they can truly feel and experience the progress together.”
The SEO Universe
SynchroniCITY SEO: A Woman in Tech, Unapologetically
While Faceted Media serves as her full-service marketing home, Hogate launched SynchroniCITY SEO as a dedicated search and advertising brand for clients who need deep, specialized SEO expertise. In an industry where women remain strikingly underrepresented in technical roles, Hogate wears her identity as a woman in tech like a badge.
“As a woman in tech, we are rare,” she says plainly. “What separates SynchroniCITY SEO from other agencies is that we are relentless in our details. We work 1-on-1 with you. We are transparent and actually show you exactly how and why something is or isn’t working.”
The firm operates from Denver’s creative RiNo (River North Art District) neighborhood, out of Enterprise Coworking — a space Hogate clearly loves. Her approach has also evolved in step with the industry’s seismic shifts: she now speaks fluently about AIO (Artificial Intelligence Optimization) alongside traditional SEO, a sign of someone who doesn’t just keep up with change but anticipates it.
The Book
Business Therapy: The Book That Earned Its Name
Published in March 2025, Business Therapy: The Anxious Entrepreneur’s Quick Guide to Success is a compact, punchy microbook that reads like Hogate talks — direct, empathetic, and devoid of the inspirational-poster platitudes that litter the self-help business genre.
The book tackles the real stuff: time vs. value-based pricing, the quiet panic of slow seasons, boundary-setting with clients, and the way living slowly can paradoxically help you move faster. It grew out of her advisory work with entrepreneurs who kept arriving to her with the same existential anxieties bundled up inside their marketing questions.
“I realized I was doing too many things for too many people for too long. And one day, I really, really had had enough. I started telling more of a blunt truth — and I started getting respected even more for it.”
Available on Amazon, it is the kind of read you finish in an afternoon and reference for years.
The Philosophy
The Grit Gospel, Minus the Gaslighting
One of Hogate’s most compelling qualities is her refusal to sell false hope. In an era when social media is, as she puts it, “gaslighting people to think it is easy to make a business,” she takes a contrarian stance: the truth, delivered kindly but delivered fully, is the most useful thing she can offer a client.
“The people who make it look easy are usually selling a program,” she says. “I have to counteract what they heard online, constantly. It’s just not reality. Just like everything hard, it takes stamina, constant improvement, consistency, connections, education, and pure grit. Plus a lot of time.”
Her formula for early-stage entrepreneurs is similarly grounded: think long-term, don’t quit your day job prematurely, stay curious, read constantly, show up in your community, and keep tossing what doesn’t work while doubling down on what does. “If you are still in business one year after starting — wow,” she says. “But you really need to get to seven years to start thinking, okay, this is my full-time job.”
“Boundary-setting is like strengthening a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger you are and the easier everything is.”
The Team
Small But Formidable
Behind Hogate is a deliberately lean, geographically distributed team that mirrors her own ethos: quality over volume. Karen Marshall, based in Devon, UK, brings over 25 years of marketing strategy experience from blue-chip corporates to solo entrepreneurs. Jess Emm, also UK-based, handles content and social media with a background in tourism and partnership development. Todd, working out of Denver, dives deep into the technical back-end — backlinks, citations, on-page and off-page SEO architecture.
“I prefer a small, efficient team that is high quality,” Hogate says. It is a model that mirrors the very advice she gives her clients: resist the urge to scale for scaling’s sake. Grow with intention.

The Path Chose Her
There is a phrase Hogate returns to when talking about the entrepreneurial life: “We did not choose this path. The path chose us.” It is not resignation — it is recognition. Recognition that the thread connecting her lemonade stand to her babysitting network to her corporate career to the four businesses she runs today was never random. It was always leading somewhere.
What makes Kimberly Hogate worth knowing is not just the businesses she has built, though they are impressive. It is the way she builds them: with honesty, with care, with her hands in the work, and with the firm belief that sustainable success is available to any entrepreneur willing to slow down long enough to build it right.
Denver is lucky to have her. And the small businesses she champions every day are luckier still.
